This local SDA black church here....it is a very poor church, financially.  Nearly everyone is unemployed, retired or on welfare....  But the Pastor drives a Mercedes Benz. It doesn't seem right to me....

  Every church-member is bound by covenant relation with God to deny himself of every extravagant outlay of means.  {SW, January 15, 1907 par. 16}

Even if he can afford the Mercedes, maybe it would be best if he didn't flaunt it like that, since the members are not as well off.

Agree, Richard. Maybe the Merc is the service of the Lord and those without transportation are being given rides?

Another question would be..how did he acquire it? Where was he previous employed? Where does he live..etc...a son of a friend was nearly homeless...a elderly lady who no longer could drive..just gave him her Lincoln Towncar...in great shape..like brand new...

He's been a Pastor for many years...he's near retirement from the church.  I'm sorry, but in my mind, it doesn't really matter how he came to possess it, even if it was given to him....I just can't see that this is the course Jesus would pursue....even though, 30 years ago, Al and I sat in a SS class in Collegedale, TN and a local Dr. was the teacher....he was teaching that had Jesus drove a "Lincoln" of His day, He would have reached and influenced more people than riding on a donkey...I don't think so....

Don't get me wrong....I don't think it is wrong to have a nice car...I don't think we should drive jalopies to prove our humbleness....we all need cars....but the car we drive speaks of our Christianity, just as does the house we live in and the clothes we wear....

I certainly would agree regarding the SS class.....houses can be another story speaking about values and if folks really believe Jesus is coming...and how much space do we need to live in or occupy..when much of our homes are empty rooms..
